PlanetGuide
maintains its servers
in an advanced network
operations center.
Several
years ago, we recognized
a need to protect our
client’s
sites, and our servers
from the dangers posed
by natural disasters.
We formulated a plan,
and moved our servers
from our old location
to a new advanced network
operations center (NOC).
This facility was battle
tested by the worse that
Hurricane Katrina could
deliver, and was totally
unaffected. Located 26
floors above the city,
with rooftop generators,
and battery backups,
our servers performed
as designed, before,
during, and after the
storm. While many of
our peers operations
where down and out for
good, we were up and
running.
During the storm, we
had temporarily relocated
to Baton Rouge with our
backup servers, that
would be up and running
in less than 48 hours
if needed. We then started
contacting our clients
via e-mail (one of the
few ways of contacting
anyone after the storm),
in order to help them
change the Home pages
of their Websites to
reflect where their customers
and employees could contact
them. We have received
much praise from our
clients for maintaining
their e-mail throughout
the ordeal, and for being
proactive in helping
them reach out to the
world.
We
are committed to staying
in New Orleans, and
in maintaining our
own servers. This is
the only way we can deliver
the best service possible
for our clients. Our
plan worked, and has
now been revised to be
even better. We are actively
asking our clients for
their emergency plans
in advance so that we
can post them immediately.
